Essential Oils Desk Reference, 4th Edition
"Which oils should I buy?" or "Now that I have the oils, what am I to do with them?"
Sound familiar? I know that's how I felt, when I began my journey into aromatherapy in 1997. For the first few weeks, I sat paralyzed, not having a clue where to begin.
Then, I was introduced to the Essential Oils Desk Reference.
Finding the answers to the basic questions of aromatherapy
The answers to these — and many other — questions lie in the Essential Oils Desk Reference, 4th Edition. Finally, in a single volume, you have easy-to-access information that puts practical, real-life aromatherapy — and other important natural health information — at your fingertips. No more guessing in the nitty-gritty of applying your essential oils, or wondering if there's an application for your particular need.
But, more than just how to use the oils, the Desk Reference contains several cleansing protocols, information on liver health and pH balance, discussions of various health issues and longevity/anti-aging therapies. There's even a completely new, 27-page chapter on the NingXia wolfberry (goji berries), dealing with their history and science.
This truly is a holistic, total health, whole-life reference.
The Essential Oils Desk Reference, 4th Edition:
This latest edition of the Essential Oils Desk Reference truly is the definitive guide to the safe and effective use of therapeutic-grade essential oils in medicinal aromatherapy. Based on the latest scientific research available, it's the most complete and reliable source of information available in the English language. Dozens of new cross reference headings have been added, making this an invaluable guide you won't want to be without.
Bigger and better than ever, the Desk Reference, 4th Edition is fully updated, with updated application information, including the new "First Recommendations" headings, that list the best 1-5 oils/products to start with (you're not left to wonder if you really need 60 different things). And, the section on RainDrop has been completely updated and expanded, with 16 new instructional photographs that make the "how to" of this amazing aromatherapy application clearer than ever before.
This is the bible of essential oils — the "essential" reference for anyone who wants to understand essential oils and their thrapeutic use. I buy every new edition, because I have to stay up-to-the-minute in my work, and I refer to it constantly. … [T]his is the "sine qua non" for any serious health professional who uses essential oils, as well as for the everyday user. I wouldn't be without it.

The 4th Edition is also more graphically appealing. With a new color format, nearly 200 color photos and illustrations have been added, making it a more enjoyable reference to use. Personally, I find that the addition of color makes locating information even easier. Headings and side-bars stand out better.
You've really got to see this. Even if you have a previous edition of the Desk Reference, this one would be well worth the price to buy.
The one down side of the Essential Oils Desk Reference
For the sake of full disclosure, it should be noted that there is one major caveat with respect to the Desk Reference: It is a Young Living-specific reference. While it has great information about the oils and holistic health, it lists many oils — and blends and other products — that are either proprietary to Young Living or available from either Young Living or Creer Lab Aromatology. They are not available from dōTERRA®.
For those who are new to aromatherapy, I admit that this could be somewhat confusing, and a better choice for you might be Modern Essentials. However, despite this little problem (I call it a problem because I definitely do not recommend Young Living products), there is a wealth of information in the Desk Reference that makes this book well worth the price and the trouble.
What makes the Essential Oils Desk Reference so special?
I highly recommend this remarkable book. It is a treasure-trove of solutions from the plant kingdom that really help with the maladies of today. In my opinion, this book is the world's best starting point for learning medicinal aromatherapy. It is a "must read" for all health professionals desiring to integrate essential oil science into their practices.
